Copiague is a hamlet on Long Island (and census-designated place) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 23,429 at the 2020 census. The hamlet is bordered by Amityville to the west, North AmityVILLE to the north, Lindenhurst to the east, and the Great South Bay to the south. It is located at 40°4029N 73°2336W (40.674700, -73.393235). It is approximately 35 miles (56 km) east of Manhattan and 70 miles (110 km) west of Montauk Point. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.2 square miles (8.4 km²), of which 3. 2 square miles of land is land and 0.04 square mile (0.1 km²) is water. The CDP has a total area of 3.2 square miles (8.4 km²) of which 3.3 square miles is land and 0.04 square miles, or 0.88%, is water. It is bordered by Amityville to the west, North Amityille to the north, Lindenhurst to the east, and the Great South Bay to the south. The southwestern peninsula is known as Amity Harbor and is served by the amityville Post Office. The central peninsula isknown as Copiague Harbor and has the Copiagues Post Office, while the southeastern peninsula is called American Venice and has aLindenhurst Post office. It has a population of 2,816. The town is located in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens. The city is located on the East River, which is a tributary of the East Kill. The Long Island River runs through the center of the CDP. It flows into the New York Harbor, which runs into the East End of the Manhattan Peninsula. The New York City borough of Queens is the largest city in the town, with an area of 4,822 square miles. The population of the town is 2,715.

Most of Copiague is served by the Copiagues Union Free School District. The district also serves North Amityville, North Lindenhurst, and a very small portion of East Farmingdale. As of the 2010-2011 school year, the district had 4,720 students. It operates six schools:Four elementary schools (Grades K5):Deauville Gardens East, Deauville gardens West, Great Neck Road, and Susan E. Wiley Elementary School. One high school (Grade 912): Walter G. O'ConnellCopiague High School (grades 912-10) The district is a part of the New York City School District, which has a total enrollment of 4,700 students. The school district also operates one middle school and one high school. It also serves one elementary school and two middle schools. It is a member of the Nassau County Board of Education, which also has a school district in Farmingdale, New York. It was founded in 1881 and is one of the oldest school districts in New York state. It has been in operation since 1881. It opened its first elementary school in 1883. It closed its middle school in 1888. The last elementary school opened in 1891. The current middle school was built in 1894. The high school was opened in 1896. It serves students in grades 912 and 914. Its name is the oldest high school in the United States, and it is located in Copiaguague.

Emergency Services

Founded in 1928, the Copiague Volunteer Fire Department is the sole provider of fire and rescue services for the hamlet. Three fire companies and two emergency squads are dispatched by the Town of Babylon Central Fire Alarm dispatch center out of two fire stations and the Tanner Park Marina. The department operates four engines, two utility vehicles assigned to each engine company, a 90 foot tower ladder, a heavy rescue truck, three ambulances, an ALS first response vehicle. The Special Operations and Rescue squad operates a fully enclosed and climate controlled 5-ton high water rescue vehicle. Three boats ranging from a 19 foot Boston Whaler to a small inflatable, a Special Ops rescue van, a Yamaha side by side, and a double decker boat trailer. The fire department is located on Dixon Ave. and the Yellowbirds firematic drill team is based on Great Neck Rd. The north station houses the Vigilant Engine Company, the Hook, Ladder and Rescue Company, and the Emergency Medical Services squad. The south station on Greatneck Rd. houses the Eagle Engine Company, the Emergency medical Services squad, and the Special OperationsandRescue squad. It is located in the town of Babylon, New York and is the only fire department in the state of New York that provides emergency services to the town. The town has a population of about 2,000 and the fire department has served the town since 1928.
