The population was 8,238 at the 2020 census, and is expected to grow to 8,500 by the end of the decade. The town is located at 40°1039N 75°616W (40.177635, -75.104424). The borough is located in the eastern part of Montgomery County, near the Pennsylvania-Pennsylvania border. It has a population of 7,393, and will be 8,240 by the time the next U.S. census is taken in 2020. The city is located near the intersection of Pennsylvania Route 263 (York Road) and Pennsylvania Route 262 (Byberry Road).

History

Hatboro is the primary city name, but also Uppr Moreland are acceptable city names or spellings. The town of Hatboro is located on land purchased from William Penn by the family of Nicholas More around 1705. When the post office opened in 1809 the town was officially called Hatborough. George Washington and his troops passed through the town numerous times during 1777 in pursuit of British Troops. The Battle of Crooked Billet was fought in 1778. The year 1811 saw the construction of the Loller Academy, the first bank was built in 1873, and railroad service connected to Hatboro in 1874. The Union Library Company, the third library company to be founded in Pennsylvania, was formed in 1755. This building still stands on its original site today and still serves as a library. The Loller academy, Roberts and Mander Stove Company Buildings, and Union library Company are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The town is located near the intersection of York Road and Moreland Avenue in the town's central business district. It is also near the junction of Moreland and Byberry Roads in the city's eastern part. The first land titles in town were issued in 1711. Original construction by early residents of the town occurred between 1715 and 1719. U.S. Postmaster General John Wanamaker officially changed the name of theTown in the 1880s to Hatbor. It is located on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, which runs north-south through the town. The town is home to the Hatboro High School, which was founded in 1903. The school was the first in the state to offer a high school diploma. It was also the first high school in the United States to graduate with a bachelor's degree. Hatboro is also the site of the U.S. Air Force Academy, which graduated its first class of air cadets in 1949. It has been the home of the Pennsylvania National Guard since the 1950s. The Borough of Hatboro was named after the town's founder, William Hatboro, who was a member of the Revolutionary War Army. The current mayor of the borough is William Hatboro Jr., who was born in 1913.

As of the census of 2010, the borough was 92.4% White, 2.7% Black or African American, 0.3% Native American, 1.6% Asian, and 0.54% from two or more races. 4.3 per cent of the population were of Hispanic or Latino ancestry. In 2000, there were 7,393 people, 3,041 households, and 1,955 families residing in the borough. The borough is located on the New Jersey Turnpike, which runs from New Jersey to New Jersey. It is one of the most densely populated boroughs in New Jersey, with a population of about 7,000. The borough's public library is located in the town's downtown area and is open to the public on weekdays and weekends. Hatboro has a city manager form of government with a mayor and a seven-member borough council. The borough maintains the Hatboro Police Department, which provides police services to Hatboro. Fire protection in Hatboro is provided by the Enterprise Fire Company of Hatboro, a volunteer fire company. Emergency Medical Services in Hatborough and surrounding areas is providedby the Second Alarmers Rescue Squad, which maintains a station in the borough.Hatboro is part of the: Fourth Congressional District (represented by Rep. Madeleine Dean) and the 152nd State House District. Hatboro also lies in Pennsylvania's 12th State Senate District (represented by Sen. Maria Collett) and 12th House District (representing Rep. Nancy Guenst) The borough is home to the Pennsylvania State Police. The Chief of Police of the Hatborough Police Department is the only officer in the town. The Borough Police Department consists of the Chief, five Sergeants, eight Patrol Officers, three Police Operations Clerks, a Secretary, and five school crossing guards. It also has a volunteer Fire Company, Hatboro Fire and Rescue, that provides emergency medical services to the town and surrounding area. The town's mayor is Tim Schultz (D) and its council members are Nicole Sutton-Reichner, Nicole McMenamin, Alex Myers, Aleta Ostrander, George Bollendorf, Jr. and Amanda Jacobus. The mayor is a Democrat, and the council is made up of three Republicans and three Democrats.

Hatboro is served by the Hatboro-Horsham School District, along with Horsham Township. One of the district's elementary schools, Crooked Billet Elementary School, is located in the borough.
