Scottsville is a home rule-class city in Allen County, Kentucky, in the United States. The population was 4,226 during the 2010 U.S. Census. Scottsville was the birthplace of what would become the Dollar General nationwide chain of 15,000 stores. The city is home to a Mennonite community. It is the seat of Allen County and part of the Allen County School District. It has two radio stations, WVLE (99.5 FM) and WLCK (12.50 FM) The city has a library, the Allen Public Library. It also has a weekly newspaper, the Scottsvile Citizen-Times, which was founded in 1890, and is published by the University of Kentucky Press. It was named for Kentucky's 4th governor, Charles Scott, and was also known as Allen Court House and Scottville in the early 19th century. The town is located at 36°455N 86°1134W (36.751504, -86.192692) and has a total area of 5.8 square miles (15 km²), all of it land. History

Scottsville is the primary city name, but also Halfway are acceptable city names or spellings, Gainesville, Halifax, Trammel on the other hand no longer accepted or obsolete and are no longer used as a designation. The site along Bays Fork was settled in 1797 and developed into a stagecoach station. The town was laid off in 1816 and established the next year. It was named for Kentucky's 4th governor, Charles Scott. In the early 19th century, it was also known as Allen Court House and Scottville. J. L. Turner and his son Cal Turner Sr. opened their first department store there in 1945. In 1955, the Turners began to open more stores, and, in 1968, founded Dollar General Corporation or DOLGEN Corp. It is the birthplace of what would become the Dollar General nationwide chain of 15,000 stores, with more than 1,500 stores in the U.S. and more than 10,000 in Europe and the Middle East. The first Dollar General store opened in Scottsville, Kentucky, in 1847. The company was founded by J.L. Turner in 1945, and opened its first store in the town in 1950. It has since grown to more than 2,200 stores across the United States and Canada. It also has stores in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. The Dollar General chain now has more than 100 stores in 15 countries and employs more than 20,000 people. The chain was founded in 1968 by Turner's son, Cal Turner, and his brother, J.B. Mennonite community

Scottsville is home to the Noah Hoover Mennonites, a branch of the Old Order Menn onites. They moved to Scottsville in 1978, coming from Snyder County, Pennsylvania. They did not emerge from a single division, as most other Anabaptist groups, but have a long history of divisions and mergers. They are a Mennonite community. The town is also known as the "Mennonite capital of the United States" and has a population of around 2,000. It is located on the banks of the Susquehannock River, which is a tributary of the Allegheny River. The city is also home to a number of churches, many of which are run by members of the Mennoite Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or "LDS Church" The town has a reputation for being a good place to raise children.
