Portland is a city in Traill County, North Dakota, United States. The first settlement at Portland was made in 1871. Portland was laid out and platted in 1881 when the railroad was extended to that point. A post office has been in operation at Portland since 1882. Portland is located at 47°302N 97°2219W (47.500451, -97.371960).According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.86 square miles (2.23 km²), all land. History

The first settlement at Portland was made in 1871. Portland was laid out and platted in 1881 when the railroad was extended to that point. A post office has been in operation at Portland since 1882. The town has a population of about 2,000 people. The city is located on the Oregon Coast, which was once part of the Oregon and New England coast. It is now part of Oregon County, Oregon, and is on the U.S. Eastern Seaboard, which once was part of New England and the Pacific Coast, and was once a part of West Virginia and the West Virginia coast. In 1882, Portland was the site of the first post office in the state, which has been there ever since. The post office was established in 1882 and is still in operation today, with a post office post office at the center of the town. It has been named after the town's first postmaster, William Portland, who was born in Portland in 1841. The current post office is called Portland Post Office and has been open for more than 100 years.
