Glendale is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, located approximately 9 miles (14 km) northwest of Downtown Phoenix. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 248,325. The New River and Agua Fria River flow southward through the western extremities of the city. The city has a total area of 65.1 square miles (169 km²), of which 0.4 sq miles (1.0 km²) is water. Glendale was named after William John Murphy, a native of New Hartford, New York, who was in charge of building the 40-mile-long (64 km) Arizona Canal in the late 1800s. In 1895, Murphy platted the original town site and amended the plat to include a town park and some business lots. The construction of a railroad from Prescott to Phoenix was made possible with an exchange of the right-of-way made by Murphy along Grand Avenue. In 1906, the Beet Sugar Factory in 1906 also contributed to the growth of Glendale. Though the operations of the factory only lasted until 1913, it played an important role in the increase of immigrant and migrant settlers in the city, as well as the construction of the Glendale City Hall in 1913. In 2010, there were 226,710 people, 79,114 households, and 54,721 families residing in theCity. History

Glendale is the primary city name, but also Luke AFB are acceptable city names or spellings. In the late 1800s the area that is now Glendale was all desert. William John Murphy, a native of New Hartford, New York, who resided in the town of Flagstaff in what was then the territory of Arizona, was in charge of building the 40-mile-long (64 km) Arizona Canal from Granite Reef to New River. In 1887, Murphy formed the Arizona Improvement Company. His objective was to sell the land and water rights south of the canal. Murphy decided to refer to this land as "Glendale" In 1895, Murphy platted the original town site and amended the plat to include a town park and some business lots. The construction and commercial applications of the Beet Sugar Factory in 1906 also contributed to the growth of Glendale. Though the operations of the factory only lasted until 1913, it played an important role in the increase of immigrant and migrant settlers in the city. The railroad allowed Glendale settlers to transport goods to the north and easily receive building materials. The town's ban on alcoholic beverages continued to attract settlers, attracted by the town's Ban on Alcoholic Beverages Act of 1891. It was bounded by Lamar Road on the south, 55th Ave on the east, Myrtle Avenue on the north, and 59th Avenue onThe west. The city was founded in 1887 by Murphy and the Arizona Canal Company, which would later become known as the Arizona  Improvement Company. It is located on the banks of the Yavapai River.

It is located in the coastal region of the Atlantic Ocean, between the states of New Mexico and California. It has an average elevation of 1.7 meters (5.2 feet) and a mean sea level of 2.2 meters (7.7 feet) per square mile (8.1 km²). The city has an estimated population of 1,816,000 (1,715,000 in 2010). It has a population density of 2,071,000 per square kilometer (2,078,000/sq mi) and an average area of 6.7 square kilometers (3,788,000 sq miles) per year. It was founded in 1805. It became a city in 1806. It had a population of 2 million in 1807. It suffered a population decline from 1807 to 1808. It experienced a population increase from 1808 to 1809. It reached its peak in 1809, when its population was 1,717, and a population growth rate of 3.2%.

As of the census of 2010, there were 226,710 people, 79,114 households, and 54,721 families residing in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 75.54% White, 6% Black or African American, 1.7% Native American, 3.9% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 16.95% from other races, and 4.0% from two or more races. 35.5% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. The city's population was spread out, with 30.1% under the age of 18, 10.8% from 18 to 24, 31.9%) from 25 to 44, 19.9%" from 45 to 64, and 7.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females, there are 99.6 males. Economy

The U.S. economy continues to grow at a strong rate. The economy is expected to grow by 0.7 percent this year. The U.N. stimulus package is expected in the second half of the year. It is the largest stimulus package in the history of the United States. The stimulus package was approved by Congress in 2009. The plan is to expand the size of the federal government and create jobs in the private sector. The goal is to create a jobs-creating economy with a more equal distribution of wealth. The aim is to increase the share of women in the economy and the middle class. It also aims to create jobs for women who want to work full-time. The top employers in the country are women, especially in the manufacturing and construction sectors. The unemployment rate is at a low 5.7 per cent, the lowest since the recession. The number of women working full time is at an all-time high. It's the highest since the late 1960s. The jobless rate is now at 4.1 per cent and the unemployment rate has fallen to 3.8 per cent. Glendale is noted for its retail sales of antiques. The Arrowhead Towne Center mall is located here. Glendale is home to the Glendale Chocolate Festival and Glendale Glitters. The town is also known for its jazz and blues festivals. It is located on the Arizona Turnpike, which runs through the town of Glendale. The city is also home to a number of tourist attractions, such as State Farm Stadium and Camelback Ranch. It also has a large number of historic sites, including the Arizona State Capitol and the Arizona Museum of History and Art, which is located in the town's downtown area. The City of Glendale owns and operates the stadium and the arena, as well as the City of Phoenix and the Phoenix Coyotes of Major League Baseball. The Arizona Cardinals play in the National Football League (NFL) and the Arizona Sting played in the NLL. Glendale is also home to Arizona State University's annual Fiesta Bowl college football game. The Cardinals and bowl game moved from Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe to the new stadium in 2007. The arena was formerly known as Glendale Arena, then Jobing.com Arena, and Westgate City Center.

Education

There are a number of higher education campuses in Glendale. Arizona State Universitys Thunderbird School of Global Management was founded in Glendor at Thunderbird Field after World War II. Glendale Community College is just across the border in northwestern Phoenix. Midwestern University is a graduate college of medicine located in glendale.Grace Lutheran School is a Pre-K-8 Christian school of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) Glendale is home to several school districts, including the Glendale Union High School District and the Peoria Unified School District. It is also home to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School, a Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix school. The following school districts serve the city: Deer Valley, Dysart, Peoria, Washington, Tolleson, and Alhambra. The Glendale Elementary School District is based in the city and serves students in grades 1-8. The Phoenix Union High school District is headquartered in the town of Glendale and has a high school campus in the center of the city. It also has a middle school and elementary school in the north end of the town. The city is also the home of the Phoenix Children's Museum, which is located in the northwest part of the suburb of Phoenix. It was opened in the early 1900s and is one of the oldest museums in the United States. The museum is now a tourist attraction and hosts events such as the Arizona State Science Fair and the Arizona Museum of Science and Technology.
