Bristol

Bristol is a town in Addison County, Vermont, United States. The town was chartered on June 26, 1762, by the colonial Governor of New Hampshire, Benning Wentworth. The population was 3,782 at the 2020 census. Main Street is home to most of the businesses of the town. Bristol was once home to the now defunct Freemountain Toys, known for producing stuffed vegetable toys known as Vegimals. The Peas in a Pod in the movie Toy Story 3 are based on the local public-access television channel 16-access TV station 16-AT-TV. Bristol is part of the Mount Abraham Unified School District, which serves the towns of Bristol, Lincoln, Monkton, New Haven, and Starksboro. It is crossed by Vermont Route 17 (east-west) and Vermont Route 116 (north-south).According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 42.2 square miles (109.2 km²), of which 41.5 sq miles (107.5 km²) is land and 0.66sq miles (1.7km²), or 1.57%, is water. The main settlement in the town is Bristol, a census-designated place, located on the north side of the New Haven River, northwest of the geographic center of town. In the town, the population was spread out, with 27.7% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 30.7%. from 25 to 44, 23.7%, and 10.9% who were 65 years of age or older.

Geography

Bristol is the primary city name, but also Lincoln are acceptable city names or spellings, Downingville, Jerusalem, Rocky Dale, South Lincoln, West Lincoln on the other hand no longer accepted or obsolete and are no longer used as a designation. The official name is Bristol, Vermont. Bristol is in northeastern Addison County, at the western foot of the Green Mountains. The New Haven River, a tributary of Otter Creek, flows out of the mountains through the town center. The state capital of Bristol, Vermont, is the city of Burlington, which also has a town center of Bristol. It is located on Vermont Route 16, which runs through the center of the town and into the town. It was the site of the first recorded European settlement of Bristol in the 17th century. The village of Bristol was founded in the 18th century and is located in the northern part of the state.

Demographics

As of the 2000 census, there were 3,788 people, 1,460 households, and 1,013 families residing in the town. The racial makeup of the town was 98.42% White, 0.24% African American,0.13% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 0,11% from other races, and 0.71% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.50% of the population. The town's population was spread out, with 27.7% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 30.7 percent from 25 to 44, 23.7 per cent from 45 to 64, and 10.9 per cent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, There were 95.8 males. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.03. the town's median income was $43,250, and the median income for a family was $48,458. The per capita income for the town is $19,345. About 6.9% of families and 10,4 per cent of the residents were below the poverty line, including 11.1% of those under age 18 and 11.5% who were age 65 or over. The town is located on the U.S.-Mexico border. It is located near the border with Mexico.

Education

Bristol is part of the Mount Abraham Unified School District. The district serves the towns of Bristol, Lincoln, Monkton, New Haven, and Starksboro. Bristol is home to Bristol Elementary School and Mount Abraham Union Middle/High School. The school district also serves the communities of Lincoln and Monkton. The Mount Abraham school district was formed in the 1950s. It is one of the largest school districts in the United States. It was once the largest district in the state, with more than 100,000 students. It has since been reduced to about 80,000 pupils. It now has a population of about 8,000, with the majority of students living in the town of 4,000. It also has a middle/high school and a high school that serve the community of 3,000 people. The town has a history of being involved in sports, including baseball, football, basketball, and soccer. The city has also been home to the U.S. Open, the World Series, the Olympics, and the Summer Olympics. The high school has been the site of numerous high-profile events, such as the 2008 Winter Olympics and the 2008 Summer Olympics, as well as the 2010 Winter Games in Beijing, Beijing, and Sochi, Russia. The community has also hosted the Winter Olympics, which were held in 2010 and 2010. The U.N. World Cup, which began in 2010, was also held in Bristol. The 2012 Winter Olympics was held in the city, and was the first Winter Games.

Economy

Bristol was once home to the now defunct Freemountain Toys, known for producing stuffed vegetable toys known as Vegimals. The Peas in a Pod in the movie Toy Story 3 are based on the peas Vegimal. The now-defunct Vegimal factory was located in Bristol. The Vegimal brand is no longer in production and the company has since gone out of business.
